what is the village model?
The village model is a way to build community power by restoring interdependence: knowing, relying on, and caring for the people around you. It moves in four steps: start with yourself, find your people, build together, and act together. Small, caring relationships become the foundation for larger collective action.
start with yourself
Get clear on what you care about, what you can give, and what you need.
2find your people
Learn your neighbors' names and find a group that shares your values.
3build together
Share meals, skills, and stuff, and make a plan for the hard days.
4act together
Solve problems on your block and show up as a group for bigger fights.
your village is part of something bigger.

What is mutual aid?
Mutual aid is people meeting each other's needs directly, by sharing resources, skills, and care, without waiting for a government or charity. It's solidarity, not charity: everyone gives and everyone receives.
What's the difference between mutual aid and organizing?
Mutual aid meets needs now. Organizing changes the systems that create those needs. A village does both.
How do I get to know my neighbors if I live in an apartment?
Start in shared spaces: the mailroom, laundry room, or elevator. Post a note inviting people to a lobby potluck. A tenant group is a great next step.
I have social anxiety. Can I still do this?
Yes. Start with a written note, a group chat, or a behind-the-scenes role like keeping the contact sheet. Bring a friend for the face-to-face parts.
